Newspapers in Education

Research shows that children who are exposed to newspapers in the classroom are more likely to become life-long newspaper readers as adults.

Newspapers across the country are developing newspapers in education initiatives to bring newspapers into the lives of young people. Projects range from donations of newspapers to schools to complete lesson plans that teachers can incorporate into their curriculum.

To assist educators, downloadable classroom lessons have been created and are available at www.newspapersineducation.ca. The lessons are written in a teacher-friendly format, complete with suggested time lines and materials list.  Resources, such as handouts for students, and assessment tools are provided.
