Ontario newspapers to be exempt from HST

November 12, 2009 - The Ontario government announced this morning that newspaper subscriptions and single copy sales will be exempt from the proposed HST (Harmonized Sales Tax).

The government decision follows months of lobbying by the Canadian Newspaper Association and the Canadian Community Newspapers Association, on behalf of the industry, to have newspaper sales exempt from the tax.
